With names like Leanda Cave, Angela Naeth, Kelly Williamson, Magali Tisseyre, and Natascha Badmann on the start list it was anyone’s race and it was promised to be a fierce one.

Leanda Cave on the run at Ironman 70.3 Panama.

True to fashion, Team TriSports athlete Leanda Cave lead the race out of the water (20:10) in her Blue Seventy PZ3TX and into T2. Hot on her heels was TriSports teammate Angela Naeth who clocked the fasted bike split of the day (2:26:31) on her BH GC Aero. Shortly into the run Angela passed Leanda, never looked back, and added her second 70.3 win to her growing list of accomplishments.

Angela Naeth, the happy champion.

Congratulations to both Angela and Leanda on their excellent showing of early season fitness. We can’t wait to see how the year unfolds!

Raising the Bar, or Seat http://blog.tri-sports.com/2011/11/30/raising-the-bar-or-seat/ http://blog.tri-sports.com/2011/11/30/raising-the-bar-or-seat/#comments Wed, 30 Nov 2011 19:16:47 +0000 Seton http://blog.tri-sports.com/?p=5417 We are once again raising the bar on what we feel a true triathlon store should offer in the way of amenities.  You must have an indoor pool (check), you must have a dedicated bike fit studio (check), and you must have a treadmill to do foot strike analysis (check).  Our newest addition – Port ‘o Potties.

Only at TriSports!

Seriously, how many of us practice using these things?  You really need to know the ins and outs of these giant plastic stink tanks. Sit or squat?  Use TP or run it a bit dirty?  Share or wait in line? These are all decisions we have to make when racing and we think it is important to practice every aspect of racing.  So, next time you are at a store that says they are a triathlon store you know what to ask them – Where is the pool, fit studio, treadmill AND Port o’ Pottie.  See you in line at the races!

TYR Freak of Nature http://blog.tri-sports.com/2011/11/11/tyr-freak-of-nature-3/ http://blog.tri-sports.com/2011/11/11/tyr-freak-of-nature-3/#comments Fri, 11 Nov 2011 19:19:52 +0000 Jaclyn A. http://blog.tri-sports.com/?p=5314 Introducing the new TYR Freak of Nature

The Hurricane Freak of Nature is made of 100% Yamamoto 40 Cell Neoprene. 7x Static Stretch: Defying comparison to any other wetsuit material, 40 Cell Nano SCS Yamamoto stretches to over 7x its static state.

ROM Zones: The gold bands on the back and shoulders of the Hurricane Freak of Nature delineate the expanded Range-of-Motion zones, calculated, calibrated, and repeatedly revised until we reached the absolute limit of positive range of motion.

V-GCP: The Hurricane Freak of Nature is armed with our new V-GCP (V-Shaped Graded Force Catch Panel), which flattens the forearm for the most advantageous engagement, maximizing your effort.

7x Static Stretch: Defying comparison to any other wetsuit material, 40 Cell Nano SCS Yamamoto stretches to over 7x its static state.

Elevation Panels: The Elevation Panels on the Hurricane Freak of Nature are a game-changer. They instantly help the athlete establish perfect body position relative to the surface of the water.

Speed Wrap Paneling: Deploys the lightest Yamamoto Nano SCS coated 5mm neoprene panels throughout the entire leg, chest and core to raise the swimmer in the water to reduce form drag. Extraordinarily buoyant Nano SCS coated rubber confers an exceptional friction coefficient of 0.026 – far lower than any other wetsuit rubber.

360 Degree Core Stabilization: Five precision-targeted performance muscle groups, oriented to sustain core strength for long swims.

The specific gravity of the Hurricane Freak of Nature is a staggering 0.17 (over 5x lighter than the specific gravity of the average human - .974).

Stay tuned to TriSports University for an in depth review!

The back porch held the bigger toys: a pedal tractor (which was metal, probably weighed 100 pounds, and was impossible to make move on the gravel driveway), a rocking horse, a kid-sized table and chairs, etc.  It was added after the house was built, and its screen doors and windows were drafty, making it only tolerable to play in during the summer.  The “spare room,” which surely used to be someone’s bedroom, although I always imagined all of the kids sleeping upstairs, had a large dresser that contained the “junk drawer.”  This drawer had a number of old toys that my mother and her brothers and sisters must have played with when they were growing up.  There were small metal cars, marbles, a creepy doll that was missing most of its hair and one eye, and various other trinkets and toy parts.

Last week we cleaned out our “junk drawer,” and we’re getting rid of everything to make room for all the great, new stuff coming in.  Come discover what we had hiding in the nooks and crannies of our store this Friday and Saturday, November 4th and 5th, from 10-6.  TriSports is significantly larger than my grandparent’s house, so I guarantee you that the stuff we found is better than small metal cars and creepy dolls with missing eyes.  Will there be bikes, clothing, accessories and wetsuits?  You’ll have to show up to find out for yourself.

TriSports.com is going Solar http://blog.tri-sports.com/2011/10/11/trisports-com-is-going-solar/ http://blog.tri-sports.com/2011/10/11/trisports-com-is-going-solar/#comments Tue, 11 Oct 2011 13:00:59 +0000 Seton http://blog.tri-sports.com/?p=5119 By Seton Claggett
Swim. Bike. Run…..Powered by the Sun. Yes, after a couple years of trying to make this happen, TriSports.com is going solar. We started this venture several months ago and we are about to the fun part of the project – the installation! Our new system will be 128kW and will provide 88-92% of our power. With some more conservation efforts internally I think we can find a way to cover the extra 8-12%.
The system is being installed by Technicians For Sustainability (TFS), they are a local company that rose to the top in our interview/bidding process and are most in-line with our core values. We have chosen to go with SunPower panels as they are some of the most efficient panels on the market and perform exceptionally well in the Arizona sun. There are going to be 416 of these panels spread across our roof and two parking structures. As we did with our water harvesting system last year, we will be posting progress updates to keep you in the loop.

Leanda Cave 3rd place Ironman World Championships http://blog.tri-sports.com/2011/10/10/leanda-cave-3rd-place-ironman-world-championships/ http://blog.tri-sports.com/2011/10/10/leanda-cave-3rd-place-ironman-world-championships/#comments Mon, 10 Oct 2011 19:01:34 +0000 Jaclyn A. http://blog.tri-sports.com/?p=5133 By Jaclyn A

There are a few words that come to mind when I think about Leanda Cave’s 3rd place Ironman World Championship performance: consistent, inspiring, and relentlessly strong.  Leanda turned professional in 2000 and has raced on the big island 5 times now. Her highest ranking was 8th place in 2007 during her Kona debut.  Since then she has humbly surrendered to the island gods, suffering from GI issues, DNFs and island fatigue.

a strong and consistent cyclist, Leanda entered T2 in 3rd place.

Leanda is always a consistent swimmer/biker, so it was no surprise when she exited the water amongst the top women with a 53:54 swim. On the bike she spent the day working and pacing with fellow Brit Rachel Joyce and gained a spot as she entered transition in 3rd place.  Heading onto the run course Leanda was looking strong, and her run form was noticeably different from years past, she was flying! Shortly into the run she passed Julie Dibens, who led the race for the swim and bike portions, but unfortunately Dibens DNF’d due to a foot injury that has been bothering her since June. Now in second place with World Champions Chrissie Wellington and Mirinda Carfrae hot on her heels, she was still looking and running strong. As Wellington made her stoic pass, Leanda placed a friendly hand on her back congratulating Wellington on her good form. Unlike most passed by Wellington, she did not crumble and quickly fall behind; instead, Leanda stayed strong running on her heels, letting Wellington know that she was not going to win as easily as she had in the past. She was later passed by marathon course record holder Carfrae, but made a pass of her own, running by last year’s second place finisher, Caroline Steffen. This secured her 3rd place finish before heading down Ali’i Drive with a 14 minute marathon PR.

Leanda Cave makes her way to the finish shoot with a 14 minute marathon PR.

In the past few years, we have not seen much of a race amongst the women for first place as Wellington and Carfrae have run away with the title, usually with no competition in sight. This year we saw the greats suffer, struggle, and fight as the top 5 women were only separated by a mere 12 minutes. What an incredible day of racing by the women of the Ironman World Championship!

A huge congratulation to our girl, Leanda Cave! We have enjoyed working with you over the years and are beyond proud of you for your inspiring race, determination, and example of sportsmanship. Now hurry back to Tucson so we can celebrate properly!

Congratulations Leanda!
