Need a great pair of running shoes?  Welcome the new Zoot Ultra Kane triathlon running shoe.  Inspiring those who train to race - Zoot created the Ultra Kane as a “high mileage stability trainer.”

Built with enough stability and motion control to give confidence after a long bike.  The Ultra Kane slides easily onto the foot using small quick-don tabs.  The fabric upper made of “TekSheen” optimizes fit through compression.

Giving a more precise fit with better foot control.  While Zoot’s “Dri-Lex” lining manages moisture and reduces friction for sockless running.  Ultimately, the Ultra Kane was specifically designed and engineered for triathletes – just like you!

Oakley Jawbone Sunglasses

Oakley Jawbone sunglasses are ideal for triathlon training and racing.  The Jawbone utilizes Oakley’s Swtichback Technology to allow for quick lenses changes by having the nose piece  pivot out and the lower jaw to swing open thus allowing the lense to be removed.   The pivoting nose piece and the swing away jaw allow the lenses to ‘float’ in the lense cradle and dramatically reduces compressive stress.

The Jawbones lense are coated with a Hydrophobic coating that prevents water from leaving streaks and sheens.  Finger prints and skin oil is easily wiped away without leaving residue.

Oakley Jawbone sunglasses are a perfect match for triathletes.

This past weekend 12 members of Team TriSports.com made their way to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the TriSports.com Halfmax National Championship. Our athletes brought their A-game as they prepared to try and qualify to be a member of the 2011 Team USA long course World championship team. 2011 Worlds are exceptionally special this year as the race comes to the states in Henderson, Nevada home of the renowned Silverman Triathlon. Team TriSports members who qualified for the 2011 Worlds team are: Cindy Duby, Stephen Harvey, Chris Chesher, Leo Carrillo, AJ Curtis and Craig Sheckler.

Race day in Myrtle Beach was beautiful! After thunder storms along the east coast all week everyone was relieved to have sunny skies on Friday and Saturday. Unfortunately due to the amount of rain the swim in the inner coastal waterway was cancelled due to high E. coli levels. The race was changed to a bike, run with athletes doing a shoeless time trail starting down by the swim exit 3 seconds apart. The city of Myrtle Beach was happy to have the race in town and allowed for a completely closed bike course on their new 3 lane highway. Athletes battled 15 mph head winds on the flat 2 loop bike course. The weather started to heat up on the run, but Team TriSports members kept their cool and finished strong.

A big special congratulation to my boss Sarah who won her age group and was the third female overall! This was only her second race after a year long sabbatical from triathlon! What an animal! Congratulations to everyone who race at the TriSports.com Halfmax National Championship! See you in Henderson in 2011!

Harvester of…..Water

Yes, my small tribute to Metallica. As you may know, or not know, we made the commitment at the end of last year to install a rainwater harvesting system on our building. Fast forward 10 months and our water harvesting system is finally being installed. Being in Tucson, Arizona we don’t exactly get a ton of rain and when we do it usually comes so fast that most of it runs off (Tucson is in the Sonoran Desert – home of the Saguaro cactus – and we have two rainy seasons, February-mid April and July-mid September that combine for a total of 12″ of rainfall per year).

Water Harvesting - future location of one of the 18,000 gallon tanks

In order to better utilize this precious commodity we are installing two 18,000 gallon tanks on our building, which will be used to supply water for our plants and washing the TriSports.com truck and trailer.
Here is a view of the Water Harvesting plans of one of the tanks.

Throughout the year we should be able to harvest a combined total of 100,000+ gallons of rainfall PLUS we have are routing the air conditioner condensation and swamp cooler cycled water (we have auto cleaning swamp coolers) into the system as well.
Here is a scale rendering to give you an idea on the size of these tanks.

Time will tell what we will be able to harvest but we will certainly keep you updated. In addition to this system we have removed quite a bit of concrete from the front of our building to make way for additional plants, vines and trees.
Fresh concrete aggregate to match our building covers the new pipes connecting the tanks.

(Kona, Hawaii) October 1, 2010 – Race week during the Ironman World Championships in Kona bustles with activity of nervous athletes, triathlon brands showcasing their hottest products and traditional pre-race meetings and logistics. This year, famed solo ‘pop’ artist Howie Day will break up the customary week activities by performing at the 1st Annual GU Kona Concert Series, hosted by the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa along with a group of leading industry triathlon companies. The event will be held Wednesday, Oct 6, from 6-9pm at the Sheraton Keauhou Bay’s private, outdoor Hawaii Lawn overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Mitch Thrower, Co-Founder of Active.com and former Co-Owner of Triathlete Magazine, will emcee the evening at which many pro athletes will also be in attendance, in particular two-time Ironman World Champion, Craig Alexander, who has traditionally called the Sheraton ‘home’ for him and his sponsors.

“I am hoping that the Kona Concert Series becomes an annual event, providing a unique and fun atmosphere for Ironman attendees, competitors, and industry leaders – BUT we also realize that it’s race week and we respect the need for the competitors to get to sleep at a reasonable time, thus the music will only go until 9pm,” said Franko Vatterott, of the Human Interest Group and one of the event organizers.

While the concert is billed as a free event, the organizers request that tickets are reserved in advance. Tickets are available through a select group of industry companies and media sources: GU, Saucony, Tri Grand Prix, TYR, Scott Bikes, Athlete’s Honey Milk, TriSports.com and BUMP.com.

There are still tickets available. You can contact the GU Kona Concert Series partners via their on-island locations or through their FACEBOOK pages:
