The first race of the season is always a nerve-racking one. Athlete’s heads are Mike-bikefilling with questions, how is my fitness level? Where is my speed?  Am I ready? TriSports.com Athlete’s Mike Montoya and Leo Carrillo put those questions to rest after their outstanding first and second place overall finishes at the sprint distance Tucson Triathlon held on the University of Arizona campus.
Mike and Leo raced head to head the entire race, with no less the 6 lead changes during the 12 mile bike. Leo’s quick T2 have him a slight lead out of transition, but Mike was right on his heels. The two ran stride for stride on the 5K 2-loop course through the heart of the universities campus, until the final 50 yards. During the final stretch Mike dug deep and took off at a sprint to claim the overall win with a time of 57.44. Leo finished strong right behind Mike with a personal best of 57.47.
Congratulations are also due to TriSports.com Athlete’s Brian Stover for his 3rd place overall finish, and John LeRoy for his first place finish in the 70-74 age group.

Congratulations to all who competed, and happy racing!
